How to register and log in

1. On the top of th page click “Log in / create account”

2. Click “Create an account” Enter your information and

3. Click the buttton “create account”

4. Log in using your new username and password.

How to search for an article

1. Type the search term into the “Search WikiLatino” box in the upper right corner of the page.

2. Click the “Go” button if you wish to go to that page. Or click the “Search” button if you wish to see a list of articles whose titles or texts contain your search term.

How to create a page

1. If no article exists on a topic, you can create it.

2. You must be logged in to WikiLatino in order to do this.

3. First search to see if the article already exists.

4. If the article does not exist, you will see a page that says “No page title matches”

5. Click on “create this page.”

6. Now you can enter text and create the article (see instructions below) as well as categorize your article for easy searching (see instructions below).

7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit “Save page” to ensure that your article is saved.

How to edit an article

1. You must be logged in to WikiLatino in order to edit an article.

2. Go to the page of the article you wish to edit.

3. Click on the “edit” tab at the top of the article.

4. Make any changes or additions to the article.

5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit “Save page” to ensure that your changes are saved.

How to enter information into a page

1. To format the page, use the toolbar above the text box. You will get a more extensive toolbar if you click on “Rich Editor.”

2. In “Rich Editor” you can change the font, add bullet points, make a numbered list, a table, or indent quotes by clicking on the various buttons.

3. To make a heading a. Highlight the text b. In the “Format” drop down menu” select “Heading 2” c. All headings will automatically index into a table of contents that will appear on the page.

How to create a link to another WikiLatino page

1. To link to another page in WikiLatino, put double brackets around the page tit le within the text of your article.

2. For example:

Penelope Cruz stars in [[Vicky Cristina Barcelona]] with [[Javier Bardem]]

would link from an article about Penelope Cruz, to a page entitled “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and to the page entitled “Javier Bardem.”

Accents

1. Please avoid using accents in the title of a page. It makes the page difficult to search for.

2. Within the text of a page, you may use accents as normal.

3. If you wish to create a link whose title has an accent, do the following. If the word is teléfono type teléfono. This will show up as “teléfono” but will link to the page “telefono."

How to create a link to an external page

1. Type in the URL (must have http:// in front) surrounded by single brackets. Ex. [1].

2. To have it so that the name of the site links to the site, type the URL then a space, then the name, inside of brackets. Ex. Google.

How to put your entry into a category

Categorize your page to make it easier to browse for.

1. When you have finished entering text into the article, scroll down to the box entitled “CATEGORY SELECTION.”

2. Type in your category name in the box. If the category already exists, you will see a drop down menu and you can select it from that menu.

3. Separate multiple categories with a semicolon.

4. If it does not exist, then you will create a new category.

5. Alternatively, you can scroll down and choose a category from the list below. Simply click on a category to put your article in it.

How to upload an image

1. Log in to Wiki Latino.

2. Go to wikilatino home.

3. In the tool bar on the left hand side of the page, scroll down to the section labelled “Toolbox”

4. Click on “Upload file”

5. When the page loads select “Choose file” and select the image from your computer that you wish to upload.

6. You may fill in the rest of the information if you wish to, but it is not necessary.

7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Upload file”

8. The image should then appear uploaded on the wiki.

To add an image to an article

1. Follow the instructions above to upload an image.

2. Open the article to which you wish to add the picture.

3. Click on the edit tab at the top of the page.

4. Click on “Open Rich editor”

5. Click on the insert picture icon in the toolbar above the article:

6. Begin typing in the image file name in the search box. When the title of the image appears in the box below, select it so that it is highlighted.

7. Add a caption in the Caption box.

8. In the drop down menu “Special Type” select “Thumbnail”

9. In the drop down menu “Align” choose where you want the picture to be in the article

10. In the “Width” box type in 200

11. Leave the height box blank.

12. Press ok.

13. Your picture should now appear in the article.

14. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the “Save Page” button to ensure that your changes are saved.
