aguas: watch out, be on the look out (literally: waters)

algarete: 12 up, 17 down In Panama, a word used to express danger, or being in a place not safe to talk or be with someone.


andar pedo - to be drunk


apachurro - attractive male or female (lit: to flatten)


un apretado - pennypincher, cheap (lit.: tightly gripped)


una ballena - beer in a 40 oz. bottle (lit.: whale)


la grasa - in English "the grass" but in Spanish should read "la hierba."


la banda - group of friends


los barros - money, cash (lit.: clay)


bicho - 1) Puertorican slang for the male sexual organ 2) a small organism such as a bug, snake, etc. 3) in Central America used to denote a young male or female


bobo - foolish, stupid


la bola - a group of people, esp. friends (lit.: a ball)


buena onda - good vibes; good feelings (lit.: good wave)

un cabrón - bad ass (lit.: male goat)


carnal - close friend; a close relative (lit.: flesh)


chafa - cheap; low quality


chale! - calm down; you're kidding etc.


una chamaca / un chamaco - child; young person; teen


chance - opportunity; perhaps (lit.: Spanglish, chance)


una chava / un chavo - girl / boy


una chela - beer


chido - cool; good; high quality


chiflado / chiflada - crazy; nutcase


un chilpayate - a boy; a young man; a teen


un chimuelo / una chimuela - a person missing front teeth


chin! - oops; darn


chipichipi - continous rainy drizzle; fussy, whiny behavior of a child


el chisme - gossip


una chismosa / un chismoso - a person who gossips


chiviar - to feel embarrassment


chocoso - disagreeable (lit.: from "chocar": to hit)


la chota - police


chula / chulo - attractive person


un chuntara - a person displaying vulgar taste


chupar - to suck; to drink, esp. alcohol


codo - to be cheap (lit.: elbow)


como friegas! - what a pest you are!


cortar - to break up (a relationship) (lit.: to cut)


cuate - friend; buddy (lit.: non-identical twin)


dar lata - to pester; to be bothersome (lit.: to give tin - instead of gold)


descarado - shameless


echale ganas! - make a good effort


un escuincle - a bratty kid (lit.: a demon)


esta canijo - a difficult situation


esta cuero - good (lit.: skin)


esta perron - the best; the coolest (lit.: big dog)


la feria - change; coins; money


la flojera - laziness (lit.: looseness)


floja / flojo - lazy (lit.: loose)


fregado - ruined; destroyed


frenos - dental braces (lit.: brakes)


fresa - spoiled; a pampered person (lit.: strawberry)


gacho - unpleasant; ugly (lit.: a cow with down-turned horns)


ganas - desire; energy


un güey - friend, buddy; a fool (lit.: a steer)

una guera / un guero - a blonde; a person with a light complexion

un huelepedos - a follower not a leader; brown noser (lit.: a fart smeller)

una interesada / un interesado - a gold digger (lit: someone with interest)


jale - work; job (lit.: pull)


mi jefa / mi jefe - my mom / my dad (lit.: my boss)


la lana - money (lit.: wool)


la ley - police (lit.: the law)


latoso - bothersome; a pest (lit.: tinny)


un madrazo - a beating, to beat the sh*t out of, moderately vulgar


mala muerte - a place of ill repute


un malandro - a criminal / a good-for-nothing


mano - brother (lit.: short for hermano, brother)


mear - to urinate


menso - fool; idiot


metiche - nosy


mi vieja / mi viejo - my old lady / my old man


una mocosa / un mocoso - a snot-nosed kid


un montón - a large quantity (lit.: a mountain)


una mora / un moro - girl / boy; young person (lit.: Moor)


la morralla - coins; small change


una muchacha / un muchacho - girl / boy; young person


una naca / un naco - a vulgar person; in poor taste, moderately vulgar


la nave - car (lit.: ship)


nena / nene - baby (term of affectionate)


ni modo - 'tough luck'; it can't be helped (lit.: in no fashion)


no hay bronca - there's no problem


no hay pedo - there's no problem


no manches! - you're kidding / no way (lit: don't stain)


no me des lata! - don't bother me (lit.: don't give me tin)


panzona - pregnant (lit.: big bellied)


un papacito - attractive man (lit.: little father)


de parranda - bar hopping; party-ing

poner los cuernos - to cheat on one's spouse (lit. to put on the horns)


una querida / un querido - a lover (lit.: a cherished one)

un rabo verde - a dirty old man (lit.: refers to an onion, green stalk with white 'whiskers')


rayado - bad reputation (lit.: scratched)


un rayd - a ride (lit.: Spanglish phonetic adaptation of ride)


re - prefix used for emphasis; Ex: Rechido


resaca - a hangover (lit.: tide)


sacado de onda - to be put in a bad mood (lit.: taken out of the wave)


salado - embittered (lit.: salty)


sangrón - someone who is bitter, spiteful


un sics - a 6-pack of beer, (lit. Spanglish, six-pack)


suelta - a police informant; a 'snitch' (lit. loose)


un tipo - a guy; a 'fella' (lit.: a type)


tiguere - Dominican slang for a shady, streetwise man
